Healthy Boundaries in the Workplace course

The term "boundaries" might, at first, seem out of place in a workplace setting. After all, we have contracts and job descriptions, right? I'd hazard a guess, though, that you also have staff wellbeing issues that don't seem to go away, even when you offer discounted gym memberships and free fruit in the office.

These initiatives are helpful, but often what's really needed is a way for your employees to notice and communicate more clearly about their capacity before stress and overwhelm become too much.

If you notice yourself (or the leaders in your organisation) tense up a little at the idea of staff expressing boundaries, that's OK (and to be expected!). After all, the old models of power are built on compliance, not employees being empowered to say no. But, what is this costing you already in HR interventions, absence, presenteeism, or declining output or quality of work?

If you're ready to do something about this, then read on!

The course

This course is designed for individuals at all levels in your organisation who are struggling with overwhelm in the workplace, stress, or other wellbeing issues. These will likely be the people you see consistently taking on too much, not saying no, or struggling to delegate effectively.

It is designed to be delivered in-person over three half-day sessions, which can be scheduled fortnightly or monthly to allow time in between for participants to put what they are learning into practice.

The topics covered during this course are listed below. There is an option to tailor this training to your organisation's needs - for example, incorporating practical examples that are most relatable to your staff - but the general arc would remain the same to enable deeper learning on an embodied level.

Learning Outcomes

Greater awareness of habits and default behaviours when responding to requests, and the impact these have on wellbeing AND effectiveness

Practical methods for discerning what's actually needed and to express healthy boundaries in the workplace, in ways that are respectful and supportive of one another.

Embodiment techniques that build awareness around capacity, and empower individuals to take steps to manage their overwhelm.

Who is this for?

  • Individuals at all levels who are experiencing overwhelm, stress, or other wellbeing issues

  • Leaders who take on too much or struggle to delegate effectively.

Course Formats

This course is available as either:

  • Three half-day, in-person sessions at your workplace

  • An online programme that takes place over six, two-hour Zoom sessions

Key Topics

  • The relevance of boundaries in a professional setting, what happens when we don't have them, and why it can be difficult to consider boundaries in this context.

  • The interplay between power and capacity - what really influences the decisions we make?

  • What embodiment can teach us about our capacity, AND how it can help us to feel empowered.

  • Using key capacities from the Dare to Thrive framework to support you.

Learning Methods

This is an embodiment-focused training, meaning that we go beyond building conceptual understanding into creating lived experiences of different states in the body.

The course includes a mixture of learning through theory, group discussion, self-reflection, embodied practices, and practical application in pairs or small groups.

Get in touch if you’d like to discuss this course in more detail.

The topics of boundaries and consent have (rightly) been getting a lot of attention in the media and beyond in recent years, usually within the context of someone touching somebody else without their consent. One side effect of this is that people are starting to have conversations around touch and physical boundaries, which is great (and much-needed) but there’s still a much broader discussion to be had around boundaries and consent in a workplace setting.

This is about exploring what needs to be in place in order for individuals to feel able to thrive in the workplace.

We keep the group sizes small for this course - usually no more than 12 people per group - so that everyone's voice can be heard.

It's also possible to create custom versions of this training for your workplace. Get in touch if this is something you'd like to weigh up.
